THE DAY HAS COME !!!
(MAYBE NIGHT??)
The day most of us have been counting to is finally here, it might be a night for some of us. Tonight the perseverance rover lands on the Martian soil along with the state of the art ingenuity rover. Yes, you have read it right it is the same rover launched towards the end of July last year.
Tighten your seatbelts for the 7 minutes of terror!!!
This endeavor is one of the most important for the research about evolution and discovery of life outside Earth. It carries many different mechanisms and scientific instruments to test the Martian environment. It looks quite similar to the curiosity rover but has different goals. For example it will not just drill rocks to study the dust but it will drill out a chunk of rock about the size of a chalk and then package it up and leave behind 43 separate samples for a future mission to send them back to earth.
The perseverance rover lands today at 20:55 GMT. There is a lag of 14 minutes (approx.) between Earth and Mars. The 7 minutes of terror include the following steps:
